NEET College Predictor

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) is India's single entry route to MBBS, BDS and allied medical seats. This tool turns the four numbers you actually control — how many questions you got right, how many you got wrong, the total candidates who appeared, and your reservation category — into the four things you want to know after the exam: your raw score out of 720, your official rank-based percentile, an approximate All India Rank (AIR) range, and whether you clear your category's qualifying cutoff.

Everything here is score, percentile and rank math. It is a companion to the CUET score calculator for undergraduate admissions and works the same way as our general percentage calculator — it just applies NEET's exact marking scheme and the NTA percentile formula for you.

NEET UG has 180 questions — Physics 45, Chemistry 45 and Biology 90 (Botany 45 + Zoology 45). The marking scheme is simple and fixed:

• +4 marks for every correct answer
• −1 mark for every incorrect answer
• 0 marks for every unattempted question — no penalty

score = 4 × correct − 1 × incorrect  (bounded by −180 … 720)

The maximum is 720 (all 180 correct) and the theoretical floor is −180 (all 180 attempted and wrong). Because a wrong answer costs a mark, guessing blindly has a negative expected value — leaving a genuinely uncertain question blank is often the mathematically better move.

Your All India Rank is your exact position among everyone who appeared. Your percentile restates that position on a 0–100 scale using the formula NTA actually publishes results with:

percentile = ((total candidates − rank) / total candidates) × 100

Note that this is rank-based, using the number of candidates who appeared. It is not the same as the shortcut "your marks ÷ topper's marks × 100", which is only a rough proxy and can be off by several points. Rearranging the same formula gives the inverse — the rank a given percentile implies:

The table below is the same anchor data the calculator's estimated-AIR range is interpolated from — publicly reported NEET 2024 marks-to-rank observations. It is useful for a quick sanity check of "roughly where does this score land", but every exam year's paper difficulty and candidate count shifts the real mapping, so treat it as a directional reference, not this year's result.

To be eligible for counselling you must clear your category's qualifying percentile. These thresholds are fixed NTA constants and do not change with the exam year — only the marks that correspond to them float with each year's difficulty.

Clearing the qualifying percentile makes you eligible for counselling — it does not, on its own, guarantee a seat. Seats are allotted by rank within category and quota during counselling.

There is no official formula that maps a raw NEET score straight to a rank, because rank depends on that year's exact score distribution, which only exists once results are declared. The estimated AIR band here is built by interpolating your score against the previous year's publicly reported marks-vs-rank pattern, then widened to acknowledge the uncertainty.

The sensitivity is real: near the top of the distribution a single mark can move the true rank by thousands, and in the dense mid-range by tens of thousands. If you want a firmer number, revisit the calculator with the official appeared-candidate count once NTA publishes it.

• Not a college-by-name predictor. Naming a specific medical or dental college needs a live per-college, per-category, per-quota (All India 15% vs State 85%) and per-counselling-round cutoff database maintained by MCC and state authorities — data that cannot be reduced to a formula and is out of scope here.
• The marks-vs-rank table is time-sensitive. It is built from NEET 2024 figures; using it for a different year is an approximation that should be re-checked against fresh official data.
• Percentile accuracy depends on your candidate-count input. The total-appeared figure changes every year; the percentile is only as good as the number you supply.
• Tie-breaking is not modelled. NEET resolves ties by higher Biology marks, then Chemistry, then fewer incorrect answers, then age — this engine only widens the estimated range rather than resolving your exact position.
• Guidance only. Your official NEET UG score, rank, percentile and admission outcome are exactly what NTA and the counselling authority publish.
